DN70: Last week, members of ADAPT in the Philadelphia area joined together to protest the ongoing institutionalization of people with disabilities in a city owned nursing home. Advocates say the home offers deplorable living conditions and that those living in the facility are subject to a poor quality of life.

On Monday, August 18th members of ADAPT began their round-the-clock vigil outside of the facility. They promised to continue the protest until Mayor Nutter made a commitment to establish a plan through which those living in the facility would be transitioned to the community. ADAPT members stayed all week with the help and support of various organizations and friends in the Philadelphia area.

German Parodi is an organizer with the local ADAPT chapter in Philadelphia. He spoke with me briefly late last week about the protest, ADAPT's demands and about how the protest is going.
