Timothy's Law - The Battle for Mental Health Parity
DN5: Imagine fighting for several years in an effort to get your insurance company to pay for treatment that your child with a psychiatric disability needs only to be refused. Then, imagine surrendering custody and care of that child to the state so that he can be covered. Finally, imagine your child commits suicide because he never was able to be treated. For one family in New York this is the cold reality of their efforts. Yet, it could have been prevented if there were mental health parity.
Jeff Keller is Assistant Director of NAMI of New York State and joins me on this episode to discuss Timothy's Law and the effort to force insurance companies to provide parity when treating physical and mental health conditions.
