Erika's Thoughts On Liberty Mutual Wheelchair Woman Voting Ad
I was surprised to see this terrific ad in the middle of my favorite newscast.
I like the ad because the character in question is so attractive, but in addition, she is the active participant; the one with the decision to make about whether she will “do the right thing,” or make it easy on herself and blow off her civic obligation.
When I saw her in her wheelchair, despite relating to her dilemmas, at the beginning of the ad, I still sort of expected her to be saved by someone else, but she perseveres, despite lack of access and getting splashed.
I like how this ad plays on even my ableist assumptions, being that I grew up in our ableist culture as well, but then, the story flips to make the chair user the heroine.
I wish this wasn’t such an occasion that I felt the need to post about it, but it’s nice to have something good to say about something related to an insurance company. As a woman, I’m glad to see someone give credit for grit to a woman with a disability…we are too often neglected when we are not poster-girl sized.
I was so interested in the novel concept that I went to New Mobility
